Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is irrefutable that education has a vital role to play in the betterment of youngsters, either it is theoretical or practical. In recent years, some individuals consider that all levels of insitutions focus more on learning materials rather than the practical skills. In my opinion, I would say that both ways have their own merits which will be discussed with relavant examples.

With regards to learning skills, although most of the schools prefer to spend more time on learning education, the benefits cannot be denied as still some youngsters aim to secure their future as a type writer or journalist. For example, MNC companies still require those candidates who have a great proficieny in writing journals or documents and these skills are considered as a prominant in some countries. Thus, theorectical education should be prevalent to some extent.

The importance of practical skills should not be ignored as these traits make a person to all rounder which definitely leads to more benefits. It is well-known that practical skills hold great value in the lives of youth and it must be provided to all students. For instance, this era is tech-savvy and it is essential to have hands on experience in other fields such as IT or Medical sectors because these fields gives ample of benefits with extra perks. Not only that, they can also run their own business if they would have practical experience.

To conclude, I will say that both education have their own role to play and leads positive outcomes according to the capacity of children. Therefore, teachers should allocate equal time on both education.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is that theoretical and practical learning both have value, and you return to this view in the conclusion by recommending equal time. The response addresses the topic and gives relevant examples, including writing skills for office work and hands-on experience in IT or medicine. However, the argument does not fully engage with the claim that too much time is currently spent learning facts: the first body paragraph mainly defends theoretical learning, while the second supports practical skills, without clearly judging the balance in education today. Some examples, such as the reference to becoming a “type writer,” are unclear or not sufficiently explained. State your degree of agreement directly and develop each example to show how it supports that position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting different kinds of learning, and a conclusion. Linking phrases such as “For example,” “Thus,” and “To conclude” help readers follow the main stages. However, progression within the argument is sometimes mechanical, and the relationship between the examples and the central claim is not always explicit. The first body paragraph begins “With regards to learning skills” but then discusses theoretical education, which makes the paragraph’s focus less clear. The conclusion recommends equal time, but the body paragraphs do not establish why this is the best balance. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each example back to your position; also vary transitions rather than relying mainly on formulaic signposting.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “theoretical,” “practical skills,” “proficiency,” and “hands on experience,” which helps communicate the subject. There are also some less successful word choices and collocations that make parts of the argument unclear, such as “a type writer,” “learning education,” and “make a person to all rounder.” Spelling errors, including “insitutions,” “relavant,” and “prominant,” further reduce accuracy. Some expressions, such as “ample of benefits with extra perks,” are vague or informal for an academic essay. Aim for precise, natural combinations and check spelling carefully. For example, use “administrative or writing roles” instead of “a type writer,” and “develop a well-rounded person” instead of “make a person to all rounder.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a concession clause beginning “although” and the emphatic structure “Not only that.” Most of the meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in sentence construction, agreement, and articles. For example, “either it is theoretical or practical” should be “whether it is theoretical or practical,” while “these fields gives” needs subject–verb agreement. In “make a person to all rounder,” the infinitive pattern and article are incorrect; “make a person well-rounded” would be more accurate. The final sentence, “both education have their own role to play and leads positive outcomes,” also has agreement and verb-pattern problems. Review these patterns and proofread complex sentences to improve control while retaining variety.
