Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people believe that children are spending more time on memorizing facts instead of understanding the concept from primary schools to universities. I strongly agree with this statement and this essay further discusses the reasons and examples supporting the above statement.
In India, especially in states like Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, parents focus on marks instead of learning the concept. They developed a mindset that a student who score more marks is a brilliant one eventhough they doesn't have a practical knowledge. For example, some parents motivate their children saying that, if they secure first rank in this quarterly or Halfyearly exams they will get a cycle or a toy. Therefore, both parents and children are not having attitude to study for themselves to understand the concept.
On the other hand, Schools, colleges and universities are spending less time on teaching and more time on study hours. They are operating more towards business instead of providing a quality education to students. All they want is their students should score top marks in the nearby area, when compared to other schools. For instance, a well known institution in Andhrapradesh "Sri chaitanya junior college" make students to study from morning 4:00 am to night 10:00 pm to get good marks in their intermediate education. Additionally, these institutions almost handle students as slaves student by-heart each and every question to secure top percentage in their end exams.
In conclusion, students are allocating their time on learning facts instead of practical knowledge mainly because of the 2 reasons. one is parents believe that, an excellent student is the one who scores top marks. so that, parents are often encouraging children to focus more on marks. Second reason is, institutions are running towards business and reputation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction: you strongly agree that education gives too much attention to facts and marks rather than practical understanding. You support this with two relevant reasons—parental pressure and institutions’ focus on exam results—and the examples from Andhra Pradesh and the named college make the discussion specific. The conclusion also restates these reasons. This addresses the task well, but the argument is not equally developed throughout: the parental-reward example illustrates pressure to achieve marks, while the link between this pressure and insufficient practical-skills teaching could be explained more explicitly. The institutional example is vivid, but its consequences for students’ practical abilities also need fuller explanation. Develop these links to make the response more complete and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion. The progression from parental expectations to institutional priorities is logical, and signposts such as “For example,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. “On the other hand” suggests a contrast, although the second paragraph adds another supporting reason. The conclusion’s “2 reasons” and “one is” structure is also repetitive, and the final paragraph largely repeats earlier points rather than synthesising them. Some sentences within the body paragraphs contain several ideas without clear links. Use more precise transitions and make the relationship between each example and the main claim explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “memorizing facts,” “practical knowledge,” “quality education,” and “secure top marks.” The regional and educational details also help make your examples concrete. However, the range is limited in places, and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems make the expression less natural: “understanding the concept” is repeated, “study hours” does not clearly convey the intended meaning, and “handle students as slaves” is an imprecise and overly strong description. There are also forms such as “eventhough,” “Halfyearly,” and “by-heart” that should be corrected. Aim for more precise academic phrasing and vary repeated terms such as “marks” and “students” while keeping your meaning clear.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a conditional example beginning “if they secure first rank” and a sentence explaining what institutions want. However, control is uneven, and errors in agreement, verb forms, sentence boundaries, and punctuation sometimes make the reader work to understand the meaning. For example, “a student who score more marks” needs subject–verb agreement, while “they doesn't have” has an incorrect auxiliary and agreement. The sentence beginning “All they want is their students should score” is not grammatically complete in its current form, and “institutions almost handle students as slaves student by-heart” joins ideas without a clear structure. Practise accurate clause construction and check agreement and punctuation, especially in longer sentences.
