Student answer (Band 6.0)

People think that in all areas of student education, more time is spent on getting the book knowledge and practical skills remain unbothered. This is an important fact because in this modern era practical skills are as important for people to thrive in life as the academic education is.

To begin with, getting a practical skill makes a man self-sufficient. As academic knowledge is important for human to get a good job and successful career, practical skills make people capable to survive in every good or bad circumstances because they know about the basic survival skills. However, some people even adapt those basic skills as their profession. There are people who learnt a skill like painting in their childhood and later on, they opt it as their profession and it becomes a main stream of their income. For example, my sister use to write novels and small poems when she was in her school, she always took part in writing competitions. Three years ago, she published her first book which went viral on social media and a writing company offered her a job.

Although, academic education need serious attention of students because they find it difficult most of the time. Early school and university education is important for every person who wants to take a degree in their field of interest. Students face a lot of competition in their studies because they want to get higher grades then their fellows. trying to get practical skills knowledge along their studies can distract them from their main goal. Furthermore, student will face stress if they try to manage both academic and physical education together. Their mental health might suffer if they try to learn everything altogother.

In conclusion, students should learn practical skills alongside their studies, but there must be proper timetable set by their parents in which they manage both tasks effectively, without facing any burden.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your response addresses the question and presents a generally clear position: practical skills should be learned alongside academic subjects, with a timetable to balance them. The examples about your sister’s writing and the pressure students face are relevant. However, the discussion is uneven. The benefits of practical skills are illustrated through one personal example, while the concern that practical learning could distract students is asserted rather than explained in detail. The opening also paraphrases the issue but does not clearly state whether you agree that schools currently spend too much time on facts. To strengthen the response, state your position directly in the introduction and develop each main reason with a clearer explanation of how it supports that position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting contrasting considerations, and a conclusion. Ideas generally progress from the value of practical skills to the demands of academic study, and linking expressions such as “To begin with,” “Although,” and “Furthermore” help signal relationships. Some connections are less clear or mechanical, however. “Although” begins a paragraph without completing a contrastive clause, and the shift from practical skills as survival abilities to writing as a career is abrupt. The conclusion introduces a parental timetable that has not been developed earlier. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each example explicitly to the paragraph’s main claim; ensure the conclusion follows from the arguments already discussed.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss education, careers, and wellbeing, including “self-sufficient,” “competition,” “mental health,” and “manage.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “main stream of their income,” though this collocation is inaccurate and would be clearer as “main source of income.” Other choices are awkward or imprecise: “getting the book knowledge,” “practical skills remain unbothered,” and “opt it as their profession” do not express the intended ideas naturally. Spelling and word-form issues such as “altogother” and “learnt a skill” in this context also affect polish. Build precision by learning common education-related collocations and checking whether each phrase sounds natural in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because,” “as,” and “if,” and most of your meaning remains understandable. Some grammatical errors persist in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “my sister use to write” should be “my sister used to write,” and “academic education need” requires subject–verb agreement (“needs”). In “Although, academic education need serious attention,” the opening punctuation and clause structure are faulty; “Although academic education needs serious attention, …” would require a contrasting main clause. There are also errors in “a lot of competition … then their fellows” and “student will face stress.” Review agreement, articles, and the structure of subordinate clauses, then proofread for punctuation and complete sentences.
