Student answer (Band 5.0)

Some people say that in all levels of education, from primary schools to universities, too much time is spent on learning facts and not enough on learning practical skills which is true.

I agree that most of the time we spent on education is just learning instead of getting some practical skills. Learning skill enhance your confidence all over the life which make you how to treat people. Learning skill teach you how to talk, how to behave or how to engage with meetings or trainings. Learning facts is more than enough to teach till primary schools level then all over the education life.

Practical skills make you to be more confident in your pracrical life either it is your personal life or its professional life. It helps you work by yourself instead of getting help from other. Practical skills need to be teach from secondary level till university beacuse it makes you more professional in your life then the learning skill.

There is a one example from my own life which I want to highlight it. I studies motor mechanic from my home country where we were studying just learning skill instead of practical skill. When I came to another country for higher studies, they focused on practical skill which I was lacking in the class. From there I realiezed that practical skill must be equal to learning skill in your life.

In conclusion, teach them practical skill instead of learning skill from secondary level so that they can built professional confidence for their professional or practical life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You take a clear position in favour of more practical education, and the motor-mechanic example from your own experience is relevant support. However, the response addresses the issue only partially: the reasons are broad, and the distinction between learning facts and practical skills is not explained in much depth. For example, the claims that practical skills build confidence and help people work independently would be stronger with specific details about what students should practise and how this benefits them. The conclusion repeats your recommendation rather than drawing together developed reasons. The response contains 230 words, so it is 20 words below the 250-word minimum; 29 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. Develop your example and explain your main reasons further.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two paragraphs about practical skills, a personal example, and a conclusion. This gives the reader some organisation, and the example is placed where it can support your position. However, progression between ideas is limited and several points repeat the same claim about confidence and practical skills. Connections within paragraphs are sometimes unclear, as in “Learning skill teach you how to talk” followed by a list of behaviours without showing how these relate to the argument about facts. The linking phrases “From there” and “In conclusion” help signal stages, but cohesion relies on a small, repetitive set of devices. Group related reasons more clearly and use explicit links to show how each example supports your position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use a small set of relevant terms, including “practical skills,” “professional life,” and “higher studies,” so the main topic remains understandable. However, vocabulary is limited and repeated, particularly “learning skill” and “practical skill,” and some word choices or collocations make meaning less clear. For instance, “Learning skill enhance your confidence all over the life” does not express the intended idea naturally, while “teach till primary schools level” is difficult to interpret. Spelling errors such as “pracrical,” “beacuse,” and “realiezed” also reduce accuracy. Build a wider range of topic vocabulary and check spelling and word forms; precise alternatives will help you explain the difference between factual knowledge and applied abilities more clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, including a relative clause in the opening and a conditional-style purpose clause in the conclusion. However, the range is limited, and attempts at more complex structures are often faulty. Errors in agreement and verb forms appear in “Learning skill enhance” and “I studies motor mechanic”; sentence construction is also problematic in “which make you how to treat people.” Articles, plurals, and prepositions are frequently inaccurate, as in “There is a one example” and “help from other.” These errors sometimes make the intended meaning difficult to follow. Practise building accurate sentences with one main idea and then add subordinate clauses, checking subject–verb agreement, articles, and plural forms.
