Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, education plays an important role in everyone's life. Some people believe that schools, colleges and universities spend too much time teaching facts and not enough time developing practical skills. I completely agree with this opinion because practical knowledge is essential for daily life and future employment.
Firstly, learning facts is important, but students should also know how to use that information in real-life situations. Many students can memorise answers and score good in examinations, but they may struggle when they face practical problems. For example, students may learn methematical formulas in school but they should also learn how to manage their monthly budgets, calculate expenses and save money. These skills can help them become more independent and responsible adults.
Secondly, practical skils are good for getting a good job. Employers often look for candidates who have communication skills, team work abilities and computer knowoledge. However, many educational institutions focusmainly on theoretical subjects and examinatons. If students are given opportunities to participate in internships, projects, presentations and workplace. For instance, a business student should not only learn management theories but also understand how to deal with customers and manage a business.
Futhermore, practical learning can make education more interesting and effective. Activities such as science experiments, group discussions and real-life projects help students understand difficult concepts more easily. They also develop confidence and creativity.
In conclusion, although learning facts provides a strong foundation for education,I strongly believe that practical skills deserve equal attention. Educational institutions should manage a balce between theoretical and knowledge.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you agree that practical skills need more attention alongside factual learning. You address the question with relevant reasons, including everyday independence, employability, and making learning more engaging. The budgeting example usefully illustrates how classroom knowledge can be applied. This meets the task well, and the range of relevant points shows some movement towards fuller development. However, the employment paragraph is less complete: the sentence beginning “If students are given opportunities” is unfinished, and the business example is not fully explained. Develop each reason with a complete explanation of how practical learning would improve outcomes, rather than relying on broad claims about employers and institutions.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, three body paragraphs signposted by “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “Furthermore,” and a conclusion that restates your position. The ideas generally progress from daily-life skills to employment and then to the benefits of practical learning. However, some linking is mechanical, and the employment paragraph contains a break in the logical flow: “If students are given opportunities to participate in internships, projects, presentations and workplace” is not completed before the example begins. The conclusion’s final sentence also introduces a balance point without clearly connecting it to the preceding argument. Use complete transitions between claims and examples, and make references such as “these skills” or “this approach” precise so the reader can follow the relationships smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of vocabulary for education and work, including “real-life situations,” “independent and responsible adults,” “internships,” and “theoretical subjects.” These choices help communicate your main ideas, and the meaning is generally clear. However, spelling errors and some imprecise or unnatural combinations reduce accuracy: “methematical,” “skils,” “knowoledge,” and “examinatons” are misspelled, while “score good” and “workplace” after “presentations and” are not well chosen in context. The phrase “a balce between theoretical and knowledge” is also unclear. Aim for accurate spelling and natural collocations, and check that nouns and adjectives fit together. This would make your vocabulary more precise and flexible.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses with “because,” “although,” and “when,” and most of the argument remains understandable. Some sentence structures are controlled, such as “Activities such as science experiments, group discussions and real-life projects help students understand difficult concepts more easily.” However, there are some errors in sentence construction and punctuation. “If students are given opportunities to participate…” is a dependent clause left without a main clause, and “a business student should not only learn … but also understand” needs a parallel structure that is clearer in the full sentence. Missing spaces after commas and inconsistent punctuation also affect accuracy. Practise completing conditional clauses and checking parallel constructions, while retaining the variety of sentence forms you already attempt.
