Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, education plays a vital role in human development. A few individuals argue that junior schools and colleges encourage their students to memorize facts rather than teaching practical skills. I vehemently agree with this statement and I will explain in the following paragraphs.

To begin with, institutions prefer to teach students through reading rather than practical skills because it helps them to earn more revenue. Colleges collect huge charges in the name of admissions then they find a way to save that money. For instance, institutions encourage students to study through the online classes, this helps them to save the cost of electricity, building maintenance and tutor fee as they can hire somebody from a foreign country who can teach the students with minimum wage.

Furthermore, a few government institutions do not receive enough funds from the government. A news article revealed that over the forty percent institutions in the Canada has not received their whole education funds from the government hence they were not able to purchased the study material such as microscopic tools which can help the students to research and develop more practical skills. Moreover, when students are not familiar with practical skills it is hard for them to bring positive outcomes in the future.

From my perspective, I believe these young children are the backbone of the country. Thus, institutions and universities should encourage their factually members to assist their students to learn through practical things. It helps students to understand the things in easier way and they can remember those learnings for long time.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you strongly agree that education gives too much attention to facts and too little to practical skills. The points about institutions saving money and government funding shortages are relevant, and the example of missing microscopes helps illustrate the practical consequences. However, the response does not fully explain how learning facts is prioritised across different levels of education, and the financial argument is not always clearly connected to memorisation. The final paragraph recommends practical learning but offers little development or a specific example. To strengthen the response, explain the effects on students’ abilities and support each main reason with a clearer, more directly relevant example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present reasons, and a final paragraph gives a recommendation. Signposts such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore,” and “From my perspective” make the stages easy to follow. However, some links between ideas are abrupt or unclear. For example, the move from online classes and cost savings to the claim about memorising facts needs an explicit explanation. The sentence beginning “Moreover” introduces a consequence but does not develop it before the conclusion. Use referencing and transitions to show how each example supports your central argument, and ensure each paragraph develops one connected line of reasoning.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “practical skills,” “institutions,” “revenue,” and “funds,” and the meaning is generally understandable. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “plays a vital role” and “bring positive outcomes.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “huge charges,” “tutor fee,” and “factually members.” “Junior schools” and “colleges” also do not clearly represent the full range from primary education to universities. Aim for more precise education-related terms and check whether words naturally combine in English. This would make your argument clearer and more fluent without requiring unnecessarily complex vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because,” “when,” and “which,” and most of your meaning can be followed. However, errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries remain noticeable. For example, “over the forty percent institutions … has not received” has problems with the article, plural subject, and verb agreement; “they were not able to purchased” uses the wrong verb form; and “in the easier way” needs a different article pattern. The long sentence about online classes also joins ideas with a comma where stronger punctuation or a conjunction is needed. Review these patterns and edit for agreement and sentence boundaries while continuing to practise complex sentences.
