Student answer (Band 5.5)

I highly agree with the statement. These days education at all level focus on bookish knowledge rather then practical skills.

During my studies back in 2010, we have special periods for learning practical skills like making small projects, looking into machines, and understand the process of physics. Mean while now a days children are not given proper practical skills knowledge and the practical periods are replaced by music classes and reading books in there free time.

I understand the importance of knowledge and sticking to books for exams, Nevertheless the practical skills help more in future to perform day to day activities and help to fix house problems for example cleaning home, cutting grass of home garden. Now kids avoid these work make reasons to skip these and wait for experts to do these small duties.

I personally perform all these activities at home with my kids to teach them and not depend on others for minor work. Although experts for electricity work, which requires safety measures to be performed.

In the end I will suggest government to include practical skills knowledge in children syllabus and make it compulsory. Which will help our future generations to be less dependent and confident.

I would also like to add that parents should teach children to clean there mess and help in cleaning and sorting house stuff. Arrange there school bags, toys and books and washing there plates after having there meal. These small activities will contribute in developing strong and responsible person in future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the opening: you strongly agree that education gives too much attention to facts and too little to practical skills. You support this with personal experience of project-based learning and examples of household tasks, and you offer recommendations for schools and parents. These points are relevant, but the response develops practical life skills more than practical skills across education generally. For example, it does not explain how universities or other subjects could balance factual learning with hands-on training. The comparison between your schooling and children’s education today is also asserted rather than supported with much detail. To strengthen the response, explain the educational benefits of practical learning and develop examples that address more than domestic responsibilities.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has an overall progression: it states your view, contrasts past and present schooling, gives examples from home, and ends with recommendations. Paragraphing helps separate these stages, and linking expressions such as “I understand” and “In the end” guide the reader. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. “Although experts for electricity work” is an incomplete thought, and the final paragraph introduces parents’ responsibilities after the conclusion, so the ending feels extended rather than fully controlled. References such as “these work” and “these small duties” also require the reader to infer exactly what is meant. Grouping the examples and recommendations more deliberately, and using clearer links between them, would make the progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate your main ideas, including relevant phrases such as “practical skills,” “safety measures,” and “less dependent and confident.” There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “minor work” and “responsible person.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, which limits precision: “bookish knowledge” is not the most natural way to describe academic learning, and “cutting grass of home garden” is unclear. Spelling and word-form errors, including “there” for “their,” “Mean while,” and “now a days,” are noticeable. Aim for more natural collocations and check spelling and possessives carefully; this will make your meaning more fluent and precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including clauses beginning with “Although” and “which,” and your main message is generally understandable. However, some sentence structures and verb forms are inaccurate. For example, “education at all level focus” has problems with number agreement, while “we have special periods” does not maintain the past time frame established by “back in 2010.” The sentence beginning “Although experts for electricity work” is incomplete, and “Which will help our future generations” is a fragment rather than a complete sentence. There are also errors in articles, plurals, and punctuation. Practise checking that each sentence has a complete main clause, and review agreement and tense consistency, especially when describing past and present situations.
