Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is an undeniable fact that theoretical as well as practical knowledge is equally important for the education. Many people believe that in all forms of learning, from initial schools to big institutions, more time is invested on theory facts and not sufficient on enhancing the practical knowledge. I completely agree with this statement. This essay will analyse my views by taking examples to demonstrate points and prove arguments.

In this contemporary era, starting from the primary schools most of the syllabus for the students is based on the learning facts and less curriculum on the technical abilities. This culture of studies make burden on the students to study more theory and spend their longer interval of the time on reading the books. As a result, learners are not learning the practical skills more adequately which is even equally useful for their future. For instance, numerous studies have shown that eighty percent of the syllabus in primary schools are only on learning facts.

In addition to this, universities curriculum also consists bigger percentage on theory classes. Particular professional degrees and diplomas need atleast equal hands-on skills as compared to the theoretical knowledge, neither colleges are organizing more practical classes nor teachers purpose the management for that. Due to which, students are not getting the exact technical skills which they need for their future job hunt. For example, in my personal experience, when I studied my Bachelor of pharmacy from Chandigarh University, we had only few practical lab classes and more theoretical lectures.

In conclusion, theory classes are covering too much by not only primary school but universities also have the same trend. These culture of studies is not benificial for the bright future of learners.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: “I completely agree,” and the response stays focused on the imbalance between factual learning and practical skills. You address both primary schools and universities, with relevant examples, including your pharmacy studies. This meets the task well. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained: the claim that primary-school syllabuses are “eighty percent” facts is not supported, and the university example could explain more specifically how limited lab work affected your preparation. The conclusion restates your view but adds little. To strengthen the response, develop the consequences of this imbalance and support each main claim with a clear explanation or a more precise example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs addressing different education levels, and a conclusion. The progression from primary schools to universities is logical, and signposts such as “In addition to this” help readers follow the argument. This shows sound organisation. At times, however, linking feels formulaic, particularly in the opening and closing phrases, and some connections between ideas are not fully clear. For example, “Due to which” begins a sentence fragment, making the relationship between the lack of practical classes and students’ job preparation less smooth. Use a wider range of natural transitions and make each paragraph’s central point explicit, then connect examples directly to the claim they support.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to education, including “syllabus,” “technical abilities,” “hands-on skills,” and “theoretical knowledge,” and the reader can understand your main argument. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing. However, several word choices and collocations are noticeably unnatural or inaccurate, such as “initial schools,” “big institutions,” “invested on theory facts,” and “teachers purpose the management.” Spelling and word-form errors, including “atleast” and “benificial,” also reduce precision. These issues fit a response with a usable but limited range and some difficulty expressing ideas naturally. Prefer familiar, accurate collocations over elaborate wording, and check spelling and word forms during revision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the opening contrast between theoretical and practical knowledge and the example introduced with “For instance.” The overall meaning is generally recoverable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity. For example, “This culture of studies make burden” has subject–verb agreement and article problems, while “Due to which” is not a complete sentence. There are also errors in number and agreement in “eighty percent of the syllabus … are,” and the final sentence begins “These culture.” Work on complete sentence construction, agreement, and articles, especially when combining clauses. More accurate control of these patterns would make your argument easier to read.
