Student answer (Band 4.5)

As the world is evolving one major thing that has not changed is the methods of teaching in school and universities. Most of the time is spent in making students cramp the book to ace the exam only but almost of teachers forget that the practical life is far more different than the things taught and cramped from books.

To live in this competitive world bookish knowledge and facts don't work rather learning a skill is so important to survive in the world. A simple example is people with a bachelor degree dont even feel confident when they move in their practical life because thye were never taught about the skill of communication. A bachelor degree holder cannot even communicate properly confidently in a interview due of lack of this skill.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You take a relevant position by arguing that practical skills matter more than learning facts alone, and the example of graduates lacking confidence in interviews supports this view. However, the response addresses the question only partially: it does not clearly state whether you agree or disagree with the claim about education at all levels, and it gives little explanation of how schools or universities should balance facts and practical learning. The final sentence, “In my daily life i have to face so much problem too,” introduces a personal point but does not explain the problem or connect it to your argument. The response is also below the required 250 words. Develop your position with reasons and specific examples before concluding.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic line of thought: teaching focuses on exams, practical skills are important, and communication is offered as an example. The opening paragraph and the next paragraph broadly follow this sequence. However, the response is too brief to establish a clear overall progression, and the final sentence is unfinished in its development, leaving the personal example disconnected. Connections between ideas are also limited; for instance, the move from “bookish knowledge and facts” to interview communication would be clearer if you explained how education could teach that skill. Use separate paragraphs for your position, supporting reasons and examples, and conclusion, with linking phrases that show how each point supports your view.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “practical skills,” “competitive world,” “bachelor degree,” and “communication.” These terms make your main concern understandable. However, the range is limited and several choices or spellings are inaccurate or informal, such as “cramp the book,” “thye,” and “ace the exam.” “Practical life” is also repeated and is not a natural way to describe life after education. These issues sometimes make the reader pause to interpret your meaning. Build a more precise range around education and employment, and check spelling and collocations. For example, you could refer to “memorising textbook content,” “workplace skills,” and “communicate confidently in an interview.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more developed sentences, including the contrast in “bookish knowledge and facts don't work rather learning a skill is so important.” The main ideas can generally be followed, but sentence structures are limited and errors occur frequently enough to affect clarity. For example, “Most of the time is spent in making students…” has an awkward passive construction, while “A bachelor degree holder cannot even communicate properly confidently in a interview due of lack of this skill” contains problems with articles, word order and prepositions. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in “i” and the long opening sentence. Practise accurate sentence patterns and break long sentences into shorter units; then check articles, prepositions and punctuation.
