Write a letter to the local council. In your letter

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear sir or Madam,

I am writing to express my concern regarding the possible closure of the local activities centre.

The centre has not been only useful for me but also for the whole society and my friends. We come here every evening to play badminton and for the swimming on weekends. Moreover, we do some ocassional parties here with my family and my loved ones.

This centre is really important for the locals because many parents come here with their kids so that they can play few games. Moreoever, the children who are in school come here to practice as their competitions are coming close. Also, old people come here for the morning and the evening walk and they like to spend their time interacting with everyone here.

I would like to request you to dismiss the idea of closing it beacuse it will negatively effect everyone who comes here to play sports or spend their leisure time to do something useful.

I hope you will consider my request positively. I hope to hearing from you ss

Yours Sincerely,

Vipan

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three requested points and maintains a clear, appropriate purpose: you express concern about closure, describe your use of the centre, and explain its value to local people. Specific examples such as playing badminton in the evenings, swimming at weekends, and children practising for competitions make the response relevant. However, the effects of closure are only briefly stated as negatively affecting users; explain more specifically what people might lose, such as access to affordable exercise, social contact, or activities for children and older residents. The centre’s importance is also described through several groups, but the benefits to the wider community could be developed further. A more explicit request to keep the centre open would strengthen the letter’s purpose.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The information is arranged in a generally logical sequence: your personal use comes first, followed by the centre’s community value and then your request. Paragraphing helps distinguish these functions, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “Also” make relationships between examples clear. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent overall organisation and shows some of the clearer progression associated with a stronger performance. However, the repeated use of “Moreover” and “Also” makes the linking somewhat mechanical, and the final paragraph combines the request with a broad statement about negative effects without explaining those effects. The closing also repeats “I hope” and ends with an unclear “ss.” Use more varied transitions and give the consequences their own clear development.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the topic and your purpose, including “possible closure,” “competitions,” “interacting,” and “leisure time.” The range is nevertheless limited in places, and some word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “the whole society,” “do some occasional parties,” and “dismiss the idea of closing it.” Spelling errors in “ocassional,” “Moreoever,” and “beacuse” are noticeable and reduce the accuracy of the writing. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points, but they keep the vocabulary from sounding consistently natural or precise. Aim for standard collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, say that families “hold parties” and ask the council to “reconsider its proposal.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The letter includes a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms. For example, “many parents come here with their kids so that they can play few games” attempts a subordinate clause, while the sentence about schoolchildren practising adds a reason. Some grammatical errors remain, including “The centre has not been only useful” (more naturally, “has been useful not only”), “play few games” (missing an article), and “I hope to hearing from you” (incorrect verb pattern). The long sentence beginning “I would like to request you” also needs clearer grammatical construction and punctuation. These errors are generally understandable, but greater control of verb patterns, articles, and sentence boundaries would make the letter more accurate.
