Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to share my feedback on sports and leisure center. It has become integral part of our life. My friend and I use these center everyday for different purpose. Sports center help me maintain my health and improve my fitness. I used to play basketball with my friends and badminton on with my family members.

These facilities and centers have become popular landmark for residents. Our beloved country Canada is well known for harsh winter and freezing cold. It is impossible to do anything outside for prolonged period of time so people used to spend their most time in this center as it acts as a shelter and equipped with fire safety and heating system. This allow people to stay physically active even during such extreme weather conditions.

If it gets close, people may be frustrated because some of them have become frequent visitors to this center. They love spending their time in the center and closing this place would make them feel vulnerable and helpless. So I kindly advise you to take the decision carefully.

Thanks.

Kind regards,

Vaibhav

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The letter addresses all three requested points: you describe using the centre for basketball, badminton and fitness, explain its value during Canada’s harsh winters, and predict that closure could leave regular visitors frustrated or helpless. The purpose is clear, and the advice to consider the decision carefully gives the letter a relevant closing position. The community benefit is most clearly explained through the centre’s role as a warm indoor place to stay active; however, the effects of closure are less fully developed and remain focused on feelings. To strengthen the response, explain practical consequences too, such as fewer affordable opportunities to exercise or reduced social contact, and give a little more detail about how different local residents use the facility.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The information is arranged in a sensible sequence: your personal use comes first, followed by the centre’s wider community role and then the consequences of closure. Paragraphing helps distinguish these points, and links such as “because” and “so” make the main relationships understandable. The letter also has a recognisable opening and closing. Some connections are less smooth, however: “These facilities and centers” does not clearly refer back to one specific centre, and the shift from winter conditions to the centre’s safety and heating features feels abrupt. The final paragraph repeats “center” and “people” without adding much progression. Use clearer references and connect each example explicitly to its effect on the community.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “maintain my health,” “physically active,” “harsh winter,” and “frequent visitors.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and the attempt to describe the centre as a “popular landmark” shows some ambition. However, several word choices or combinations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “share my feedback on sports and leisure center,” “different purpose,” and “acts as a shelter.” Repetition of “center” and “people” also limits flexibility. Aim for more precise collocations and vary references to the facility and its users. The meaning remains generally clear, but more natural phrasing would make the letter sound more fluent and appropriate for a formal council audience.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response includes both simple statements and attempts at longer structures, for example the sentence explaining that the centre allows people to remain active during extreme weather. Most ideas are understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include missing articles in “integral part of our life” and “sports and leisure center,” subject–verb agreement in “Sports center help” and “This allow,” and the incorrect form “If it gets close” for a future possibility. There are also tense and construction problems in “people used to spend their most time” and “badminton on with my family members.” These errors do not usually prevent understanding, but they reduce accuracy. Check articles, agreement and verb forms, and revise longer sentences for clear, complete patterns.
