Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear sir,
I am writing this letter to shed light on the issue which is taken by you about to close the sport and leisure Centre.
Well I am living in abc street and this local centre is important for us. In the morning time people of the society always visit this centre some of my friends go out to the sports centre and some of the old people spend there time in that area they do lot of activities to relax and in that way they can communicate with others
This community centre is very crucial for us because this is the only way to spent our free time with our near and dear friends. When one of our friends in some trouble we solve the problems together.children also spent their free time in sports which is good activities for them and they keep their self fit and fine
If this centre get close there are various side effects in the people. They have no other place in that area where they got together.they just stuck in their houses children also may be getting stubborn or lazy because they spend lot of time to mobile phone or internet playing games this is the only way for the outdoor activities in our area.
I hope so you will understand this situation and take a right step for us am looking forward to your positive response.
Yours sincerely,
ABC

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explain how the centre is used, its importance to the community, and the potential negative consequences of its closure. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a council. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the point about children becoming 'stubborn or lazy' is a bit simplistic. To reach a higher band, try to expand on your points with more specific examples or more sophisticated reasoning regarding the social and health benefits of the centre.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the task. There is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat limited and occasionally mechanical. You rely heavily on simple sentence structures and lack a variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in addition'). Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the transition between the benefits of the centre and the consequences of its closure. Improving the flow between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You use common phrases like 'fit and fine' and 'good activities', which are somewhat repetitive and informal. There are also some minor errors in word choice, such as 'issue which is taken by you' (should be 'decision made by you') and 'stuck in their houses' (should be 'confined to their homes'). To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to community services and urban planning to demonstrate a wider range of lexical control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('this centre get close'), article usage, and punctuation. For example, 'children also spent their free time' should be 'spend' (present tense consistency). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. Focusing on proofreading for basic tense consistency and sentence boundary punctuation would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
