Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter regarding the closer of local community center.
I am Gurpreet Singh resident of Model Town Ludhiana. I become aware about the replacement of local community hall by a shopping center from a local newspaper. It is the only public hall available for public uses. It included park, indoor gym and a football ground. Most of the young childrens play in this ground in evening and ealderly people also like to go in park for morning walk.
This community center help to motivate children towards sports activities while young people use the indoor gym. As many people use the council hall for gathering or daily meetings. It helps local people to bind with sports and performe various leisure activities. Me and my friends play football daily in the ground which helps us to get fit and healthy.
Needless to say, we donnot like the idea of building shopping center. It would left no public space for people to leisure activites as well it effects the environment by cutting down the trees in park. Whereas, with the construction of shopping mall local will face more traffic problem on roads due to less parking space. This community center is really important for us. I hope you will understand my conseen and you would take appropriate action to shift this project to another location.
Looking forward for a prompt action.
Yours faithfully
Gurpreet Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the task: usage of the center, its importance to the community, and the negative effects of its closure. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a council. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation of why the center is important is a bit repetitive, and the description of the effects of closure could be more detailed beyond traffic and environmental concerns. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the social benefits of the center, such as its role in fostering community spirit or providing a safe space for vulnerable groups.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. There is a clear introduction and conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as the transition 'Needless to say' or 'Whereas, with the construction'. Some sentences feel disconnected, and the flow between ideas could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'this center', 'these facilities') is precise will help improve the overall flow and coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'leisure activities', 'prompt action', and 'appropriate action'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and spelling mistakes that slightly detract from the quality, such as 'closer' instead of 'closure', 'young childrens' (should be 'children'), and 'conseen' instead of 'concern'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a wider range of precise vocabulary to express your ideas more effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'I become aware' (should be 'I became aware'), 'It included park' (missing article 'a'), 'Me and my friends' (should be 'My friends and I'), and 'It would left' (should be 'It would leave'). These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct verb tenses, and the proper use of articles.
