Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir,

I am writing to inform regarding the importance of sports and leisure centre.

To begin with, many individuals are suffering from depression and anxiety due to their hectic schedule or daily life pressure to overcoming such effects leisure centres are playing such a vital role. Moreover, I often go to play several outdoor games with my friends and family members. We play badminton, table tennis and many more things. Spending a quality time with family or loved ones in healthy way is extremely beneficial for mind and body.

Additionally, a huge number of local community people everyday go to the centre for a morning and evening yoga sessions which helps them to stay not only physically fit but also improves their mental health.

Considerably, In the future if you are planning to close the local community centre it would be effectively affects on a person daily needs and mark a detrimental affect on their body.

I would appreciate it if you could look into this matter and take the necessary action at your earliest convenience.

Your Faithfully,

Divya.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task. You described your personal use of the centre, explained its importance to the community, and outlined the potential negative effects of its closure. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation of why the centre is important is quite brief, and the description of the effects of closure could be more specific regarding the impact on the local population. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with more detailed explanations or examples.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter follows a logical progression, moving from your personal use to the community benefits and finally the consequences of closure. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'Additionally'. However, the paragraphing is a bit disjointed, and some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The use of referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'it would be effectively affects on a person daily needs', where the connection to the previous idea is slightly awkward. Improving the flow between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'detrimental', 'hectic schedule', and 'physically fit'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'inform regarding' (should be 'inform you about'), 'effectively affects' (should be 'have an effect on'), and 'mark a detrimental affect' (should be 'effect'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word forms and collocations to reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with verb forms ('to overcoming' should be 'to overcome'), subject-verb agreement, and word order. For instance, 'it would be effectively affects' is grammatically incorrect. While the meaning remains clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from being considered highly accurate. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like article usage and verb tense consistency will help improve your score.
