Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I'm writing to express my experience about the local centre with my family and friends. As me and my friends are free from our college and work we decided to go the centre to play some sports like soccer, badminton, basketball and more, even if we are tired and do not wanna play, we just sit on the benches and just enjoy the beautiful sunset, And even my parents love the centre as they always walk around the centre walking their dog and enjoying quality time together.
Sports like soccer, badminton, basketball and more are on of the sports that young children loves to play, and some also make it they're goal to dream to get better at it and become a professional in that specific field when they grow up. Family's can also have a get-together like a picnic or a family contest in the centre.
If in any reason that the centre closes it will have a bad impact in the local community because the centre is the place where people come and relax and have some quality time with their loved ones.
Yours Faithfully,
Local Citizen

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explain how you use the centre, why it is important for the community, and the potential negative effects of its closure. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a council. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the explanation of why the centre is important could be expanded with more specific details about the health or social benefits. While the task is fully addressed, the depth of the arguments is limited, which prevents it from reaching a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific requirement of the task. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'If in any reason' and 'As me and my friends'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there is a lack of more sophisticated linking words or referencing. For example, the transition between the first and second paragraph is abrupt. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring smoother transitions between ideas would help elevate your score in this criterion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'professional', 'impact', and 'community'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'express my experience' (instead of 'express my concerns') and 'walking their dog' (which is slightly repetitive). There is also a reliance on simple, repetitive vocabulary. To improve, try to incorporate more precise, topic-specific collocations related to community services and urban planning to show a wider range of lexical control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'As me and my friends are free' (should be 'As my friends and I'), 'on of the sports that young children loves' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'If in any reason' (incorrect preposition). While these errors do not impede communication, they are noticeable and occur frequently. Increasing your control over basic grammar, particularly subject-verb agreement and pronoun usage, is essential for achieving a higher band score.
