Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I hope this letter finds you well.I am writing to express my concern about the proposal to close the local sports and leisure centre in order to save money.I strongly beleive this decision would have a negative impact on our community.
Firstly,my family, friends, and I use the venue regularly.I attend the gym three times a week, while my younger brother takes swimming lessons there. My parents often participate fitness classes, and many of my friends play hockey and football at the complex during weekends.
Secondly, the sports and recreation centre is an essential part of the regional community. It encourages people of all ages to stay physically and mentally active, maintain good health, and interact with other people. It also help people relax and forget stress from daily responsibilties. It provide clean,safe,comfortable,well-organised,and welcoming environment for younger people to spend their free time productively.
However,If the club closes, many residents may lose access to the affordable sport's facilities. This could lead to reduced physical activity, socail isolation, fewer opportunities for local engagement.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt effectively. You clearly explained how you and your family use the centre, the importance of the facility to the community, and the potential negative consequences of its closure. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a local council. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly more on the specific benefits of the centre to provide a more detailed and persuasive argument. However, the response is well-focused and covers all required aspects of the task clearly.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organised with clear paragraphing. You use transition signals such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'However' to guide the reader through your arguments. While the structure is sound, the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of cohesive devices to link sentences more fluidly. For instance, some sentences feel slightly disjointed. Additionally, ensure that your concluding paragraph is fully developed, as it currently ends rather abruptly. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proposal', 'essential', and 'responsibilities'. There are some minor errors, such as 'socail' (spelling) and 'sport's facilities' (incorrect apostrophe usage). To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and less common lexical items. For example, instead of 'stay physically and mentally active', you could use 'promote physical and mental well-being'. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, but it lacks the sophistication required for higher band scores.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that affect the accuracy of your writing. For example, 'My parents often participate fitness classes' is missing the preposition 'in', and 'It also help people' should be 'It also helps'. Additionally, there are some punctuation issues, such as missing spaces after commas and periods. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and proofreading for punctuation will significantly improve your accuracy.
