Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sharma,
Today I am writing this letter to express my concern about the council's plan to close the local sports and leisure centre. My family, friends and I daily use this facility and I strongly believe it plays a big role in our community.
First of all, I would like share share all the details How's me and my family use this park in daily life. My elder dad use sports centre in every morning for his yoga activity. Me and my Friends use it for play different types of games like, cricket, football and some board games. All the aunties use this centre for evening walk so this centre play very big role in whole community not only my family.
Secondly, if authority close it they do not have other place like this where all people come and spent there free time in nature. Also, we do not have sports ground around our community for playing our games. In this situation I request you please do not close this centre.
Waiting for you positive notice.
Thank you.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: how you use the centre, why it is important, and the effects of its closure. Your position is clear throughout the letter. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For example, when discussing the effects of closure, you mention that there is no other place for people to spend their free time, but this could be expanded further to discuss the impact on physical health or social isolation to make your argument more persuasive. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although the opening salutation 'Dear Sharma' is inappropriate given the prompt provided 'Dear Sir or Madam'.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'Secondly', and 'Also' to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where referencing is unclear or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'this centre' and 'my family'. To improve, try to vary your transition words and use pronouns or synonyms to avoid repeating the same nouns too frequently. The logical progression is present, but it lacks the sophistication required for a higher band score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'sports and leisure centre', 'yoga activity', and 'sports ground'. However, the range is quite limited, and there are some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'share share' (repetition), 'elder dad' (should be 'elderly father'), and 'positive notice' (should be 'positive response'). To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise vocabulary and avoid basic errors in word formation and collocation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'How's me and my family use' (should be 'how my family and I use'), 'use sports centre in every morning' (should be 'uses the sports centre every morning'), and 'if authority close it they do not have' (should be 'if the authorities close it, there will be no other place'). These errors are noticeable and occasionally distract the reader, though they do not fully impede communication. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct article usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
