Write a letter to the local council. In your letter

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing regarding the advantages of local leisure center.

Firstly, I always go to the center in evening with my family. We all do various activities there for example playing cards, jumping, and play cricket. Moreover, my friends also enjoy this place by doing multiple activities there.

In addition, leisure center is very important for local people because this is the only traditional park at nearby areas. It reflects our culture. Furthermore, people also visit this place from various places to experience the beauty of this place. Children also love to go there and do multiple small things.

If the center closes then our place will be become monotones or dull. People have to find other areas where they can spend time with their family members. Children will also face difficulty to find playground.

I hope you will consider my suggestion on important note.

I look forward to hearing from you,

Yours faithfully,

Vishal Goyal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You explain how you use the centre, why it is important, and the potential negative effects of its closure. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, describing activities as 'doing multiple small things' is vague and lacks the detail required for a higher band. To improve, provide more specific examples of the community benefits or the social impact of the centre. While the tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, the content remains quite superficial throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific requirement of the task. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', 'In addition', and 'Furthermore' to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally repetitive. For example, the phrase 'this place' is used multiple times in the second paragraph, which makes the writing feel slightly monotonous. Improving the variety of your linking words and using pronouns or synonyms to avoid repetition would enhance the overall cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision expected at higher levels. You rely on simple, repetitive words like 'activities', 'place', and 'things'. There are also some minor collocation errors, such as 'monotones' instead of 'monotonous' or 'dull'. While your meaning is always clear, the lack of more sophisticated or topic-specific vocabulary (e.g., 'recreational facilities', 'community hub', 'detrimental impact') limits your score. Try to incorporate more precise adjectives and nouns to describe the centre and its importance to the community.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'regarding the advantages of local leisure center' (missing an article), 'in evening' (missing 'the'), and 'our place will be become' (incorrect verb form). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor slips throughout. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles will help you achieve a higher score.
