Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope this letter will find you well. I am writing today to share our thoughts on behalf of people of town regarding the sports centre.
First and foremost, I am proud to say that sports centre is part of your life and we can't imagine a day without it. All of the adults plays soccer everyday along with some children who come here to play in the kids garden.
Moreover, sports centre has the major role to keep most of the person in the town stay fit and healthy. It is even became place for everyone to get together everyday and to unwind after a hectic schedule.
Last but not least, closing permanently the town centre would have negative impact on our health and there won't be any other place for everyone to play and to unwind. I hope you will reconsider your decision and will be waiting for the next announcement in favour of sports centre.
Regards,
Kunal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly explain how the centre is used, its importance to the community, and the negative consequences of its closure. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention that adults play soccer, providing more specific details or a personal anecdote would have strengthened the response. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a council, and your position is consistent throughout. To reach a higher band, aim to expand on your points with more descriptive language and specific examples to fully develop your arguments.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, each focusing on a specific requirement of the task. You use transition words such as 'First and foremost', 'Moreover', and 'Last but not least' to guide the reader. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'the town centre' in the final paragraph, which is slightly ambiguous as you previously referred to it as a 'sports centre'. Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents will help improve the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'hectic schedule' and 'reconsider your decision'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'kids garden' (which should be 'playground') and 'most of the person' (which should be 'most people'). To improve, focus on using more precise vocabulary and common collocations. Expanding your range of descriptive adjectives and adverbs would also help you express your ideas with more nuance and sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('adults plays', 'It is even became') and article usage ('the sports centre' vs 'sports centre'). These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable but do not significantly impede communication. To improve, pay closer attention to basic grammar rules, such as pluralization and verb tense consistency. Practicing the use of more complex sentence structures, such as conditional sentences or relative clauses, will also help you demonstrate a wider grammatical range.
