Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear sir,
I hope you are doing well.
I am writing this letter to request you on the behalf of local community on the closing of the centre. It is a vital place for many because elders and younger ones spend their time in this centre and only way of senior citizens to meet and talk with each other in evening.
Furthermore, these type of sports and leisure centre helps to enhance students interest in sports when they see others to play. Its also beneficial for older generation. To explain it, in old age people often feel lonely and do not share their emotions which leads into stress. It can be avoided by meeting with the same age group in parks. Due to hectic schedule, individuals come their to feel relax which act as a stress buster for them.
If this centre will colse, it would affect many lives, there is no any other place available for local people. You can clearly know which things could not be done if it will close.
I look forward to your reply.
yours faithfully,
suman

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt. You mentioned how the community uses the centre, explained its importance for social interaction and mental health, and described the negative effects of its closure. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of how you and your family use the centre is quite brief and could be more specific. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is expanded with more detailed examples or personal context. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter to a local council, although the structure could be more refined.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore' and 'If this centre will close', which assist in linking ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel abrupt. For example, the jump from discussing students to the older generation in the second paragraph could be smoother. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the final paragraph where you state 'You can clearly know which things could not be done', which is vague and lacks specific detail.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'vital place', 'hectic schedule', and 'stress buster'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'request you on the behalf of local community on the closing' (should be 'protest against the closure') and 'come their to feel relax' (should be 'come there to feel relaxed'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. Expanding your vocabulary to include more formal, topic-specific collocations would improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('these type of sports... helps'), incorrect verb forms ('see others to play' instead of 'see others playing'), and punctuation errors. There are also spelling mistakes, such as 'colse' instead of 'close'. While these errors rarely prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they are frequent enough to suggest a lack of control over more complex structures. Focusing on proofreading for basic tense and agreement errors would significantly improve your accuracy.
