Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or madam,

I hope you are doing well. I want to talk about the community center, which is located in the center of city. It provides many facilities to everyone like from children to old people.

I prefer to spend my most of the leisure time here with my friends and family . Because we play a lots of games here and spend a quality of time here with each other. Also, the outside park is perfect place for morning and evening walk.

This center is very crucial because children prefer to play an sports centers. And it is close to their houses, therefore it's convenient for them to go there. Also, young and old people enjoy to do activities in leisure center.

However, if you close this center, then it will create difficulty for local people. As either children have to go other place to play. Or they might prefer to stay at home in order to watch TV. Moreover, old people might not able to spend quality of time together with their friends. Because they have to find out new place .

I hope you understand this and not prefer to close this center.

Kind regards,

Rajveer Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly explain how you use the centre, why it is important for the community, and the potential negative effects of its closure. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a local council. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the explanation of why the centre is important could be expanded with more specific examples of health or social benefits. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are fully extended rather than just stated, providing a more comprehensive view of the situation.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the task. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Also', 'However', and 'Therefore' to link your ideas. While the flow is generally easy to follow, the transitions between sentences can feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. To improve, try to vary your linking words and use more sophisticated referencing (e.g., using 'this facility' or 'the proposed closure' instead of repeating 'the center'). Overall, the structure is clear and serves the purpose of the letter well.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'facilities', 'leisure', 'crucial', and 'convenient'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'spend a quality of time' (should be 'spend quality time') and 'play an sports centers' (should be 'play at sports centres'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and variety of less common lexical items that would be expected at a higher band level. Focusing on natural collocations will help improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, though there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'I prefer to spend my most of the leisure time' (unnecessary 'my'), 'old people might not able to' (missing 'be'), and 'As either children have to go other place' (should be 'to other places'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication, and the meaning remains clear. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and prepositions, as these are the most frequent sources of error in your writing.
