Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
Everyday me and my friends using the centre for playing games or doing other activities. I think sports centre is very essential for people because they can do different kinds of sports. As well as leisure centre is important because people can spend their time with their loved ones. If the centre closes, No one can be able to meet and interact with their neighbours which results in people becoming introverts. Moreover, people will not play any games or do not exercise. As a result, they will become lazy.
Kindly, do not close the centre because this results in the lack of interaction between the neighbours and increases the laziness in the people.
With regards,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points: usage of the centre, its importance, and the consequences of closure. However, the response is significantly under the 150-word minimum, which limits the development of ideas. The points are mentioned briefly rather than being fully expanded or supported with specific detail. For instance, the impact of closure is limited to 'laziness' and 'lack of interaction,' which are somewhat repetitive. To improve, you should elaborate on how the centre benefits specific groups (e.g., elderly, youth) and provide more concrete examples of the activities you participate in to meet the length requirement and demonstrate a more thorough response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a basic structure, but it lacks effective paragraphing. The ideas are presented in a single block, which makes the progression feel somewhat disjointed. While some cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'As a result' are used, they are used repetitively and sometimes mechanically. The flow between sentences is functional but lacks the sophistication required for higher bands. To improve, ensure you use clear paragraph breaks for each main point and vary your linking words to create a more natural and logical flow throughout the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. Phrases such as 'doing other activities' and 'play any games' are very basic. There is a lack of variety in word choice, and some collocations are unnatural, such as 'increases the laziness in the people.' To achieve a higher score, you should aim to use a wider range of topic-specific vocabulary related to community facilities and health. Instead of repeating 'people' and 'centre,' try to use synonyms or more descriptive language to convey your message with greater precision and style.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'Everyday me and my friends using' (incorrect verb tense and pronoun usage), 'No one can be able to' (redundant modal usage), and 'do not exercise' (incorrect tense/structure). The sentence structures are mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct tense usage, and the proper use of modal verbs. Proofreading for basic errors like 'me and my friends' (should be 'my friends and I') will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
