Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing this letter on behalf of my family and local residents regarding closure proposal of our community centre.
My family and local residents are heavily rely on this centre as some of my nieces and nephews attend the swimmimg lessons and other members of the community and my family use the gymnastic area to keep themselves healthy. Moreover, I play badminton with some of the community members in the evening time just to keep myself stress free.
The sports and community centre is vital for the local people as it provides the convenience to everyone. People can spend their time with their families and friends by playing different types of sports that keeps them heal and hearty and strengthn their bonds with each other.
The closure of community centre will impacts people's life because its near to the community. So, everyone make their own schedule according to their working hours but if it close , people have to travel long distances to access sports and other activities that is not feasible to everyone. Furthermore, this can increase the isolation in senior citizens and a weaker sense of community cohesion.
I strongly urge the counsil to reconsider this decision. Hope to hearing from you soon.
Yours Faithfully,
Aman

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the task. You clearly explain how you and your family use the centre, why it is important for the community, and the negative consequences of its closure. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a local council. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are slightly more developed; for instance, when discussing the impact on senior citizens, you could provide a specific example of how the centre helps them maintain social connections. Overall, the message is clear and the purpose of the letter is well-maintained throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'So', although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the flow between sentences is smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure supports the development of your ideas effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'community cohesion', 'feasible', and 'reconsider'. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'heavily rely' (should be 'heavily rely' or 'rely heavily') and 'heal and hearty' (the correct idiom is 'hale and hearty'). Additionally, there are a few spelling errors like 'swimmimg', 'gymnastic' (should be 'gym'), and 'counsil'. While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the score from being higher. Expanding your range of topic-specific vocabulary would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are several grammatical inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'closure proposal of our community centre' (missing article), 'will impacts' (incorrect verb form), and 'everyone make' (subject-verb agreement). There are also minor punctuation and phrasing issues, such as 'Hope to hearing from you soon' (should be 'I hope to hear from you soon'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and verb tenses will help improve your accuracy.
