Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You explain how you use the centre, why it is important for the community, and the negative effects of its closure. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of the 'effects' could be more detailed beyond just mentioning children using phones. While the task is fully addressed, the ideas lack the depth and extension required for a higher band. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a local council, and your position is clear throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite limited and sometimes mechanical. For example, you rely heavily on simple sentence structures rather than using linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly. There are instances where the progression between sentences feels a bit disjointed, such as the transition between the second and third paragraphs. Improving your use of transition signals like 'consequently', 'furthermore', or 'in addition' would significantly enhance the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'outdoor games', 'mental and physical health', and 'local resident'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is some repetition of basic words. There are also minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'traffic sport complex' (which is unclear) and 'children outdoor activity is being finished'. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate a wider range of vocabulary and ensure that collocations are used more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Some elder person are enjoying'), tense inconsistencies (e.g., 'summer vacation is started'), and missing articles or prepositions. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are noticeable and occur regularly. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, particularly verb tenses and pluralisation, before attempting more complex structures. Proofreading for these common errors will help you achieve a higher score.
