Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explain how your family uses the centre, why it is important for the community, and the potential negative effects of its closure. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a local council. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed; for instance, the explanation of the negative effects could be more specific regarding the impact on the neighbourhood. Overall, the purpose of the letter is clear, and the reader is fully informed of your position regarding the proposed closure.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into distinct paragraphs, each focusing on a specific requirement of the task. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Apart from this', and 'In addition' to link your ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'Therefor, these opportunities can establish a strong relation'. The use of referencing is sometimes unclear, which makes the progression of ideas feel a bit mechanical at times. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'recreational', 'significant benefits', and 'detrimental effects'. However, there are some noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'e-gadgets' (which is informal), 'deficiency in happiness', and 'shutdown this centre'. Some phrases are slightly unnatural, such as 'welcomes unloved and depressive lifestyle'. While these errors do not impede communication, they limit the precision of your writing. Expanding your vocabulary to include more natural collocations would help you achieve a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('this leisure centre have been', 'park have been utilised'), incorrect preposition usage ('in surrounding'), and awkward sentence construction ('Individuals could be faced obesity'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence structure often lacks the control needed for higher bands. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed with correct grammatical markers.
