Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing this to express my concern regarding the closure of our city centre.
The city centre is a important part of each and every local in our community. This place holds great memories for everybody. My friends and family members uses this place for sports as well as leisure activities. Furthermore, this place has a huge number of employees from our city and if centre closes, they will lose their jobs.
Moreover, in our city this centre is the only place that has sport arena which means if the centre closes children will have very hard time in playing any sports and its unfair to them.
I would kindly ask you the city council to think once more about not closing centre and take my request into considaration. I am looking forward to from to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.
Regards,
Ayushi

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points in the prompt: usage of the centre, its importance to the community, and the consequences of closure. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention that your family uses the centre for sports and leisure, you could have provided more specific examples of the activities you enjoy. Similarly, the impact on the community and the consequences of closure are mentioned but remain quite general. To reach a higher band, try to expand on these points with more descriptive detail or personal anecdotes to fully develop your argument.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore' and 'Moreover' to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical, and the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs could be smoother. The use of referencing is generally clear, though some sentences feel slightly disconnected. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that connects back to the main purpose of your letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'leisure activities' and 'local community'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'each and every local' (should be 'local resident') and 'sport arena' (should be 'sports arena'). Additionally, there is a spelling error ('considaration'). To improve, focus on using more precise vocabulary related to community services and ensure you check your spelling of common words. Expanding your range of synonyms would also help to make your writing more engaging.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For example, 'My friends and family members uses' (subject-verb agreement error) and 'children will have very hard time in playing' (article and preposition usage). There are also some awkward phrasings, such as 'I am looking forward to from to hearing from you'. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Practicing more complex sentence structures while ensuring they remain error-free will help you achieve a higher score.
