Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I live in local community and use all the facilities. Such as park sports center etc. I am writing this letter to inform you that how useful and important are these facilities.
Every evening me and my friends go to the sports center and play tennis as well as soccer and pool. We really enjoy the atmosphere of the center and the staff over there is very friendly.
Along with our group there the plenty of people in community who go to sports and leisure center to spend there free time. Along with that they can stay fit and healthy by playing such games. These centers are very useful to all the community members.
God forbids, if these centers get closed for some reason in the future, it will be a nightmare for the people who use it, because these are the only two places where people do socializing . In the end I just want to say thanks for your time and keeping these centers new and open for us.
Kind Regards
Karanvir Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points in the prompt: how you use the centre, why it is important, and the effects of closure. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention playing tennis and soccer, the explanation of the centre's importance is quite general. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific details or personal anecdotes about the community impact. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although the opening and closing could be more refined to better suit the context of a formal request to a local council.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'Along with that' and 'In the end' are used to link ideas, but the flow between sentences could be smoother. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'these are the only two places where people do socializing,' where the antecedent for 'these' is slightly ambiguous given the previous mention of a single centre. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. You rely on basic terms like 'useful,' 'important,' and 'friendly.' There are also some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'do socializing' instead of 'socialize' and 'there free time' instead of 'their free time.' While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for a more varied and accurate vocabulary to express your ideas more effectively in a formal context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including missing articles ('in local community'), subject-verb agreement issues ('staff over there is'), and punctuation errors. For example, 'Such as park sports center etc.' is a sentence fragment that should be integrated into the previous sentence. While the meaning remains clear, the frequency of these errors suggests a lack of control over more complex structures. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for articles and prepositions would be beneficial.
