Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear sir or Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to share my suggestions regarding the usage of local community center. It has been very helpful for some family occasions like birthday, or retirement party as it allows people to organize it at minimal expense. The housekeeping service provided by the council is very satisfying.
Moreover, it supports people of all ages to have some quality time by playing sports there. It is always great have a local center where it brings local people together and build bonds with each other that creates safe and friendly environment. Retired people stay active by spending their leisure time in community center.
Due to unavailability of community center, local people get affected by various issues. For instance, renting a private hall for some special occasions could be very expensive. Kids might not participate in different sports.
Thank you considering my recommendations.
Best regards,
Manan

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt. You mentioned how you use the centre for family occasions, explained its importance for community bonding and health, and described the negative effects of closure. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the point about the effects of closure could be more detailed; instead of just stating that private halls are expensive, you could have elaborated on the loss of social cohesion or the impact on the physical health of the elderly. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter, though the opening and closing could be more standard.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on one of the bullet points. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'For instance' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel abrupt. For instance, the jump from discussing family occasions to the council's housekeeping service lacks a smooth connection. Additionally, the referencing could be improved; in the third paragraph, 'Due to unavailability of community center' is slightly awkward and would be better phrased as 'Due to the potential closure of the centre'.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'minimal expense', 'quality time', and 'social cohesion' (implied). There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'unavailability' instead of 'potential closure' or 'loss'. You also have some minor errors in collocation, such as 'It is always great have a local center', where the infinitive 'to have' is missing. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical slips throughout the text, such as missing articles ('the' community centre) and subject-verb agreement issues ('it brings local people together and build bonds' should be 'builds bonds'). The sentence 'Thank you considering my recommendations' is missing the preposition 'for'. While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede the overall communication of your message. To improve, focus on proofreading for small function words like articles and prepositions.
