Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear sir or madam,
I am writing this letter to inform you about the sports centre. I spend most of my weekends in the centre heaving fun with my friends and family. We do lot’s of activities in this centre I remember that even my first swimming experience was here. We play games and do get together here. While this place is in the centre of city so it’s easily accessible for the public. Specially for older people they spend there time playing cards and doing yoga for helth. Meanwhile most of the family came here for swimming lessons and many more things. However, if this center closed local have to go miles away to have such activities and it’s really hard for some senior citizens. This city have huge emotion to this place. I know many individuals who was afraid it. We request you please don not close this place.
Thank you so much for your understanding.
Sincerely
Rohit

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt: how you use the centre, why it is important, and the effects of its closure. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention that you use the centre for swimming and socialising, the explanation of its importance to the community is quite brief. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your ideas with more specific details or examples. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter, and your position regarding the closure is clear throughout the response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from your personal usage to the community impact and finally the consequences of closure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited. You rely heavily on simple transitions like 'Meanwhile' and 'However', and some sentences feel disjointed. Paragraphing is also missing; the entire response is written as a single block of text. To improve, you should use clear paragraph breaks to separate your introduction, body points, and conclusion, and experiment with a wider variety of linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant topic-specific terms such as 'accessible', 'senior citizens', and 'swimming lessons'. However, there are several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'heaving fun' (having fun), 'helth' (health), and 'afraid it' (afraid of it). These errors do not significantly impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on learning the correct spelling of common words and expanding your range of collocations related to community and leisure.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'do lot’s of activities' (do a lot of activities), 'most of the family came here' (most families come here), and 'many individuals who was afraid' (who were afraid). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of apostrophes and sentence boundaries. While your meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in subject-verb agreement and basic sentence construction prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would be highly beneficial.
