Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to express my concern about the proposed closure of the local sports and leisure center. As a regular user of the facility, I would like to explain why it is significant to both my family and wider community.
To begin with, me and my family friends spend our free time to use the center facilities to become mentally and physically fit. In addition, it helps community and individuals to make healthy lifestyle by working out and for the kids leisure center helps them to feel relax and give opportunities to make them learn.
Secondly, sports center and leisure center is a attraction for individuals and kids offering many amenities such as gym, swimming, indoor games which helps community to build strong ties. For example, it gives chance to communicate with different people of various backgrounds and cultures.
In addition, closing sports center and leisure center will affect individuals and wider community as shutting down this center will increase the obesity rate and closing the recreational center will make individuals and kids more unhealthy.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explained how you use the centre, why it is important for the community, and the potential negative effects of its closure. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For example, when discussing the benefits for kids, you mention they 'learn' but do not specify what they learn or how. Similarly, the impact of closure is repeated in the final paragraph without adding new depth. To reach a higher band, try to provide more specific examples or elaborate on the consequences of the closure to demonstrate a more thorough engagement with the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'In addition', and 'Secondly' to signal the progression of your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally repetitive (e.g., repeating 'sports center and leisure center' multiple times). The use of cohesive devices is functional but lacks the flexibility required for higher bands. Improving the variety of your linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use relevant terms like 'amenities', 'recreational', and 'obesity rate'. However, there is a lack of variety, and you rely on repeating the same phrases, such as 'sports center and leisure center'. There are also some minor collocation issues, such as 'make healthy lifestyle' instead of 'lead a healthy lifestyle' and 'feel relax' instead of 'feel relaxed'. To improve, focus on using a wider range of synonyms and ensuring that your word choices are grammatically and contextually accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. For instance, 'me and my family friends' should be 'my family and friends', and 'it helps community and individuals to make healthy lifestyle' contains errors in article usage and verb-noun collocation. There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and missing articles throughout the text. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they are frequent enough to limit your score. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage.
