Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt. You explained how you use the centre, why it is important, and the potential negative effects of its closure. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of the effects on children is a bit vague, and the letter could benefit from more specific, formal language to convey the urgency of the situation. While the task is fully addressed, the depth of the arguments could be improved to reach a higher band by providing more detailed examples or a more persuasive tone.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'Furthermore' to link ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes repetitive or slightly mechanical. Additionally, the transition between sentences is occasionally abrupt, such as the shift from the elderly people's activities to the importance of the centre. Improving the variety of your linking words and ensuring that each paragraph flows logically into the next would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'residents', 'community', and 'leisure centre'. However, there are instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'informing you about the uses of local centre' instead of 'informing you about the use of the local centre'. You also rely on basic verbs like 'using' and 'playing' repeatedly. To improve, try to incorporate more precise synonyms and collocations to make your writing sound more natural and sophisticated.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('many of our family members is', 'Elderly people usually comes') and incorrect verb tenses ('If we have a free time... we prefer to come here and starting to play'). While you attempt some complex sentence structures, they are often marred by these errors. To reach a higher band, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring consistent verb tense usage. Proofreading for these common slips will significantly improve your accuracy.
