Student answer (Band 5.0)

Dear sir

I hope you feeling well, I am just wondering to give you detail about the usage of sports and leisure Centre, it is very useful for my friends when we are free, we like to spend our leisure time there, it is the best place to us to do sports activities because we are so interested in sports.

Another thing is, it is not only useful for youth but also helpful for older people, they can come there with their grand kids and enjoyed a lot by doing some sports, it is best place to reduce stress for them.

It will put adverse impact if it is close because it is the only place for the sports if it closes youth will not concentrate on sports and they feel lazy at their home which put bad impact on their health and also impact the development of the area

your sincerely

Kamal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The letter addresses all three bullet points: usage, importance, and the consequences of closure. However, the development of these ideas is quite limited. For instance, the explanation of why the centre is important is brief and lacks specific detail, and the description of the effects of closure is somewhat repetitive. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more specific examples or justifications. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a council, though it lacks a formal structure.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The letter is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the flow of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is very limited and sometimes mechanical. There is a lack of linking words to connect sentences smoothly (e.g., 'Another thing is' is a very informal transition). The punctuation is also inconsistent, with several run-on sentences that make the progression of ideas feel disjointed. Improving the use of transition signals and sentence boundaries would significantly improve the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive. You rely on simple phrases like 'very useful', 'best place', and 'do sports'. While the meaning is clear, there is little attempt to use a wider range of vocabulary or more precise collocations related to community services or leisure facilities. To improve, try to incorporate more varied and topic-specific vocabulary to express your ideas with greater precision and sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'I hope you feeling well'), tense inconsistencies (e.g., 'if it is close'), and missing articles. The sentence structures are mostly simple or contain comma splices, which indicates a lack of control over complex structures. While the errors do not completely prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are frequent enough to cause some difficulty and distraction.
