Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to inform you to keep open the sports and leisure centres for the community.
I have been living in this town for the last five years. Additionally, I have been using leisure centre for playing sports game, which allows me to develop good communication, cooperation, teamwork and leadership skills. Additionally, visiting sports centre during weekends provide time for social gathering with my friends and quality time after long working hours and keep us active and fit. Therefore, sports centre play a pivotal role in order to improve our health and build professional skills for future. Whereas, our family members going to leisure to arrange social events or spending time for creative activities like walking, reading, yoga and meditation. Hence, it will access them time for escape them from busy work schedule and enjoy some beautiful moments with their relatives.
If the centres will closed, it will significantly possess negative effects on the health of children and elder people will lake an opportunity for social gathering and mitigate the chance to take participate in creative activities.
I hope you consider my suggestions and do something in order to keep open leisure and sports centres for the well-being and better health of local community. I look forward to your prompt response in this matter.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Yours faithfully,
Twinkle

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly explained how you use the centre, why it is important for the community, and the negative consequences of its closure. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a local council. However, some ideas are slightly repetitive, such as the mention of social gatherings and health benefits. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is distinct and fully developed with specific examples rather than repeating similar concepts. Overall, the purpose of the letter is clear and the requirements are met.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical structure with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices like 'Additionally', 'Therefore', and 'Hence' to link ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly repetitive. For instance, starting two consecutive sentences with 'Additionally' disrupts the flow. The paragraphing is generally appropriate, but the transition between the second and third bullet points could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring they are used naturally would enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'pivotal role', 'mitigate', and 'well-being'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and minor errors, such as 'lake an opportunity' (should be 'lack') and 'take participate' (should be 'participate'). Some phrases are slightly unnatural, such as 'sports game' instead of 'sports' or 'physical activities'. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message clearly, you need to focus on more precise collocations and ensure that less common words are used accurately to move into the higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'inform you to keep open' (should be 'inform you of my desire to keep open'), 'sports centre play' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'If the centres will closed' (incorrect tense/passive voice). Additionally, there are issues with article usage and word order, such as 'the leisure centre' vs 'leisure'. While these errors do not prevent the meaning from being understood, they occur frequently enough to limit your score in this criterion.
