Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 3.0

The response fails to address the prompt correctly. The task asks you to write to the local council regarding the potential closure of a sports and leisure centre. However, your letter is written as a request to rent the council building for a family function. You have completely misunderstood the task requirements. While you do mention the importance of the centre in the third paragraph, the overall focus is on a personal booking request rather than providing feedback on the council's proposal to close the facility. Consequently, the response does not fulfill the core instructions of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The letter is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression is severely hampered by the misunderstanding of the task. The transition between the personal request for a venue and the discussion about the sports centre is abrupt and confusing. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Therefore' and 'Similarly', but they are often applied incorrectly or in contexts that do not support the argument. The referencing is also unclear, as it is difficult to determine if you are writing about a community centre or a council building for a private event.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary is limited and often used inaccurately. Phrases like 'Master of Doctor' (likely meaning a Master's degree or Doctorate) and 'private hole' (likely meaning 'hall') indicate a lack of control over word choice and collocation. There is a reliance on basic vocabulary, and attempts to use more formal language often result in unnatural phrasing, such as 'fill up their responsibility'. The range is insufficient to convey complex ideas clearly, and the errors in word choice occasionally impede the reader's understanding of your intent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. There are issues with sentence structure, such as comma splices and run-on sentences (e.g., 'In my family, my sister has been completed...'). Subject-verb agreement is inconsistent, and there are frequent errors with articles and prepositions. While some simple sentences are clear, the attempts at more complex structures are consistently faulty. Punctuation is also problematic, particularly with the misuse of commas where full stops are required. These errors are frequent and often cause difficulty for the reader.
