Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to raise concern regarding closing of sport center belongs to our community. My name is Ashwani Handa, and i am a national sports person.
Firstly, this center is very iconic due to its location and built almost 15 years ago. It is main main hub of many individuals and sports person for their daily activities like Yoga, walking, running, swimming and many more. Every morning, I together will my friend came here for my game practice.
Moreover, In couple of month my sports events will be organize by authorities, and we don't have another sport center in our surroundings. It is not related to me but also local people and young children, who use this for daily activities and game practice, suffer due to this.
So, It is my humble request, please reconsider in this matter, and don't close this center.
yours faithfully,
Ashwani Handa

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt. You explained how you use the centre for daily practice, highlighted its importance as a community hub, and described the negative impact of its closure on local residents and children. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. For instance, the impact on the community could be expanded with more specific examples of the social benefits. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a council, and your position is clear throughout. To improve, try to elaborate slightly more on the consequences of the closure to provide a more persuasive argument.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the introduction to the personal usage, the community importance, and finally the request. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly' and 'Moreover' to link your ideas. However, the paragraphing is a bit disjointed, and some transitions feel mechanical. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'It is not related to me but also local people', where the connection between the ideas is slightly confusing. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would enhance the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'iconic', 'authorities', and 'reconsider'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'closing of sport center belongs to our community' (should be 'the closure of the sports centre that belongs to our community') and 'In couple of month' (should be 'In a couple of months'). While these errors do not impede communication, they show a need for more precise control over articles and pluralization. Expanding your vocabulary to include more sophisticated collocations related to community services would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Issues include missing articles ('closing of sport center'), subject-verb agreement ('my sports events will be organize'), and tense inconsistencies ('I together will my friend came here'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are errors in capitalization and sentence construction. While the meaning remains clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammar, particularly verb forms and articles, will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
