Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Sir,
I hope you're doing well;
I am writing this letter to inform you that I have using community center about 5 years. I usually came here with my near and dear one. we used this center for various purpose like learn the swimming from expert tutors, spend quality time with my family at park.
I believe that sports and leisure activity is beneficial for local community as they remain physically fit and active when they take part in sport like basketball, cricket, swimming. local community also can get place to spend time with their friend and family while walking and siting in the park.
if this gets close than it effects on local people as do not get place to meet with closest person and no platform to learn sport activity due to this, I request you, please do not close the community center
Warm Regards

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt: how you use the centre, why it is important, and the effects of its closure. However, the development of these ideas is quite limited. For instance, while you mention using the centre for swimming and the park, the explanation of why it is important for the community is somewhat repetitive and lacks specific detail. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your ideas with more descriptive language and provide a more formal tone suitable for a letter to a local council. The purpose of the letter is clear, but the overall development remains basic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite mechanical and sometimes missing. For example, the transition between the second and third paragraph is abrupt, and the use of linking words like 'due to this' is slightly awkward. The flow of ideas is generally logical, but the lack of varied transition words makes the writing feel a bit disjointed. Improving the use of cohesive devices such as 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in addition' would significantly improve the flow and coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message, but it is quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'near and dear one' and 'spend quality time' are common but lack the precision expected at higher levels. There are also some errors in word choice, such as 'if this gets close' instead of 'if this closes' and 'learn the swimming' instead of 'learn swimming'. To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to community services and leisure facilities, and focus on using more accurate collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the letter, which occasionally impede the flow of reading. For example, 'I have using' should be 'I have been using', and 'I usually came here' should be 'I usually come here'. Your sentence structures are mostly simple, and there are errors in verb tense and article usage. While the meaning is generally understandable, the lack of control over complex structures and the presence of frequent errors in basic grammar prevent a higher score. Focus on mastering subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tenses.
