Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing to you because, the town center in our area is closing and our society do not want this. This town center is a great asset for our people. As many children use to play games inside the towncenter and it is also used for leisure activities occasionally such as exibitions, festival celebrations and most importantly for educational seminars. Moreover, center is also a affordable option for a middleclass family to arrange family functions inside a towncenter and it is also good for the government as it produce income for the government.
However, if the towncenter closes this will effects lot of families such as the people working in the towncenter as well as the community around the center. Most of the children use the center for activites will not be able to use it if it close down and that can push them towards drugs as all of us know that sports is the only option to keep people away from the Drugs.
Thank-you

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points: the usage of the centre, its importance to the community, and the consequences of its closure. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the mention of 'exhibitions' and 'educational seminars' is a good start, but the explanation of why the centre is important could be more detailed. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though the structure is slightly repetitive. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your personal experiences and provide more specific, nuanced reasons for why the centre is vital to the community beyond general statements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organised into two main paragraphs, which is a logical approach. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'However' to link ideas. However, the progression of ideas within the paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'Most of the children use the center for activites will not be able to use it'. The connection between sentences could be smoother to improve the overall flow of the argument. Paragraphing is present, but the transition between the personal usage of the centre and the broader community impact could be more effectively managed.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You use some basic terms repeatedly, such as 'towncenter' and 'use'. There are also some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'our society do not want this' (should be 'community') and 'it produce income' (should be 'it generates revenue'). While your meaning is clear, the vocabulary is somewhat limited and lacks the sophistication needed to elevate the response. Focusing on using more precise verbs and nouns would significantly improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('our society do not want', 'it produce income'), missing articles ('a affordable option', 'the middleclass family'), and punctuation errors. Additionally, the sentence 'Most of the children use the center for activites will not be able to use it if it close down' is grammatically fragmented and confusing. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall clarity and professionalism of your writing.
