Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to express my gratitude towards the sports center that has been a crucial part of my Huron community. Particularly for me and My family, It has been a source of bonding because whenever we have a free time, we spend it together by playing badminton in the center.
Primarily, the leisure center is a mean for whole community to share a roof, while pursuing their interest. The sports center is not only a bonding feature but also a medium to pursue fitness for the elderly. Moreover, all the big festivals are celebrated together at the leisure center by the community.
If the center will be close, it will have a large impact on peoples lives. To begin with, it will affect the fitness significantly, as the sports club will be demolished. Also, we celebrate festivals together in this center, so this precious shared movements will disappear from my community.
I have a humble request to reconsider this development plan.
Kind regards,
Akash Joshi

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly explain how your family uses the center for badminton, why it is important for community bonding and fitness, and the negative consequences of its closure. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a council. However, the development of ideas is somewhat brief. To reach a higher band, you could provide more specific examples of the 'big festivals' or elaborate further on the 'significant' impact on fitness. The purpose of the letter is clear throughout, and the response is well-focused on the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Primarily', 'Moreover', and 'To begin with' to guide the reader. However, the flow between some sentences is slightly mechanical. For instance, the transition between the importance of the center and the impact of its closure could be smoother. The use of referencing is generally clear, though some minor improvements in linking ideas within paragraphs would enhance the overall flow and coherence of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'crucial', 'bonding', 'demolished', and 'reconsider'. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'a mean for whole community' (should be 'a means for the whole community') and 'shared movements' (likely meant 'moments'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the variety and precision required for higher bands. Attempting to use more sophisticated collocations or idiomatic expressions would help elevate your score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'whenever we have a free time' (remove 'a'), 'If the center will be close' (should be 'If the center is closed'), and 'peoples lives' (missing apostrophe: 'people's lives'). Additionally, there are some capitalization errors, such as 'My family'. While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct use of articles, and consistent punctuation, particularly with possessives and conditional clauses.
