Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this to inform that every individual is using the sports and leisure centre for their various activities. I am using this centre to play badminton and use Gym for my physical fitness. I used to come with my family members and friends to play. My parents are also coming in this centre to do Yoga. My friends are coming for the playing Volley ball, badminton and Basket ball.
This centre is now an essential for all local people, as people visit this centre to perform physical exercise and also this place became their favourite spot where they can spend time together. Every individual starts their morning routine in this centre by doing exercise. Nowadays, everyone focus more on physical health for their long life. For all local people this centre is vital for them to maintain their good health.
If centre gets closed, then it is difficult for old generation to perform their physical activity as they have to travel far for another centre and during winters it is hard to do perform physical exercise in cold environment, not only for old but also for young generation as well it is tough to perform exercise in that weather. Centre is located in the middle part of the residential area so it is for us to visit, but if centre is closed then people have to travel for long distance. Young people would not be able to play sports of their choice, as in this centre they are getting various sports to play. Above are the future effects on local community if centre gets closed.
Yours sincere,
Heli Kothari

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: describing your usage of the centre, explaining its importance, and outlining the negative effects of its closure. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented. However, the development of these points is somewhat repetitive, particularly regarding the physical health benefits. To reach a higher band, you could provide more specific examples of community programs or social events that would be lost, rather than focusing primarily on individual exercise routines. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a council, and the purpose is clear throughout the response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the task. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'If centre gets closed' and 'Nowadays', to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by repetitive sentence structures and a lack of varied transition words. For example, the transition between the importance of the centre and the effects of its closure could be smoother. Referencing is generally clear, but the use of articles (e.g., 'If centre gets closed' instead of 'If the centre gets closed') occasionally makes the text feel slightly disjointed.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your points effectively. You use topic-specific terms like 'physical fitness', 'morning routine', and 'residential area'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a tendency to repeat basic verbs like 'use', 'come', and 'play'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise synonyms and collocations. For instance, instead of saying 'every individual is using', you could use 'the community relies on'. There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'Yours sincere' instead of 'Yours sincerely', which affects the formal tone.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with article usage (e.g., 'use Gym', 'in this centre', 'for old generation') and verb tense consistency (e.g., 'My parents are also coming' instead of 'My parents also come'). These errors are noticeable but do not impede communication. To improve, focus on mastering the use of definite and indefinite articles and ensuring consistent verb tenses when describing habitual actions. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures would also help elevate your score.
