Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to express my views about the centre in our locality and possible future effects on people living in our area if the centre closes.
The centre is located in the middle of the city which is very convenient for everybody to walk to it rather than driving. It has numerous shops including restaurants and small play ground for children. Most of the women prefer going to city centre with their children so that their children can enjoy in playing area and meanwhile they can do grocery. The centre even has aesthetic clubs and cafes which are widely enjoyed by youngsters.
The leisure centre is crucial for every citizen because it provides multiple things at one place and people do not have to travel to another city to enjoy and buy local things. Additionally, the sports centre is also important for youth and elderly people to have fun and keep themselves fit.
In future, if the city centre is not near to resident's home or do not provide essential services like cafes, restaurants, clothing brands, and game shops, it could possible effect local people in a way that most people will avoid going outside for strolling or having fun. To keep one happy, fit, and engaging, the city needs to have modern centre.
Thank you for considering my views on city centre and I hope it will stay like this in future without any amendments.
Yours faithfully,
Ashu Berwal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the prompt, covering how you use the centre, its importance, and the consequences of its closure. However, the response is slightly off-topic. The prompt asks about a 'sports and leisure centre,' but your response focuses almost entirely on a 'city centre' with shops, clothing brands, and grocery stores. While you mention sports briefly, the focus on retail facilities suggests a misunderstanding of the specific type of centre mentioned in the task. To improve, ensure you focus strictly on the facilities and services typical of a sports and leisure centre, such as swimming pools, gyms, or sports courts, rather than general commercial shopping areas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organised with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Additionally' and 'In future' to link ideas. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by the confusion between a sports centre and a general city centre. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different requirements of the task. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider range of cohesive devices and ensure that the transition between your personal use of the centre and the broader community impact is smoother.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'convenient,' 'crucial,' and 'amendments.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'aesthetic clubs' (which is likely not the intended meaning) and 'strolling' used in a context that feels slightly unnatural. The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. Focusing on topic-specific collocations related to sports and community facilities would significantly improve your lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'enjoy in playing area' (should be 'enjoy the play area'), 'do grocery' (should be 'do their grocery shopping'), and 'it could possible effect' (should be 'it could possibly affect'). Additionally, there are issues with article usage, such as 'in middle of the city' and 'to resident's home.' While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to limit your score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles will help.
