Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter for the purpose of making leisure centre for local individuals where people can enjoy their spare time with all other groups. My family and friends will go there everyday to spend quality time.
Additionally, centre will play prominent role in each and everyone life from children to elders as children can play games to utilize their free time after school. Moreover, sometimes elders feeling bored because of staying home all day can go there for some relaxation.
Closure of centre can badly impact all folks who are used to it like it can directly impact on mental health because of losing place to relax and socialize. Elders might become more isolated because in this day and age every family member is busy so its impossible to give sometime to elderly people regardless of that if centre will closed they will be more isolated.
I am looking forward to see you again.
Warm Regards,
Sukhan

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt, though the development of ideas is somewhat limited. You mention how you use the centre, why it is important, and the effects of closure. However, the opening sentence is unclear; you state you are writing for the purpose of 'making' a leisure centre, which does not align with the task of protesting a closure. The ideas regarding the impact on mental health and elderly isolation are relevant, but the expression is a bit repetitive. To improve, ensure your purpose for writing is clearly stated in the introduction and provide more specific, descriptive details to support your arguments.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'Additionally', 'Moreover', and 'However', but the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'regardless of that if centre will closed', which makes the logical connection between the busy nature of families and the isolation of the elderly difficult to follow. Improving the use of transition words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents will help improve the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. You use basic terms like 'badly impact', 'folks', and 'bored'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'making leisure centre' and 'give sometime to elderly people'. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to community services and social impact, and ensure that your word choices are natural and contextually appropriate for a formal letter to a local council.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There is a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include missing articles ('making leisure centre', 'if centre will closed'), incorrect verb forms ('sometimes elders feeling bored'), and punctuation issues. The sentence 'I am looking forward to see you again' is also inappropriate for this context, as you are writing to a council, not an individual you have met. Focusing on subject-verb agreement, consistent tense usage, and the correct use of articles will significantly improve your grammatical accuracy.
