Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses all three bullet points: usage of the centre, its importance, and the effects of closure. However, the development of these ideas is quite limited and superficial. The letter is also significantly under the 150-word minimum requirement, which negatively impacts the overall task achievement. To improve, you should expand on your personal experiences and provide more detailed consequences of the closure, such as specific health impacts or the loss of a vital community hub. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a council, but the lack of depth prevents a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The letter lacks clear paragraphing, which is essential for organizing ideas in a formal letter. While there is a basic logical flow from the introduction to the impact of the closure, the transition between ideas is often abrupt. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes inaccurate, such as the repetitive use of 'and' and 'but'. To improve, you should use clear paragraph breaks for each main point and employ a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in addition') to connect your sentences more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, often relying on simple phrasing. There are several instances of awkward word choices or incorrect collocations, such as 'since from that time' and 'sence of happiness'. The range is insufficient to express complex ideas with precision. To reach a higher band, you should work on using more sophisticated vocabulary related to community and social issues, and ensure that your word choices are contextually accurate. Focus on learning common collocations rather than individual words to improve your natural expression.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with verb tenses ('me and friends are used to go'), subject-verb agreement ('majority of people... does same'), and sentence structure ('I vividly remember community centre was opened'). The use of articles is also inconsistent. The response relies mostly on simple sentence structures, and attempts at more complex sentences are often marred by errors. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles and prepositions.
