Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear sir,

Greetings for the day!

I am writing this letter to tell you that our community sports centre is very beneficial for the society. Moreover, our vision is totally transparent me my family and my friends use this premises for the purpose of fitness and we often come and do some exercise and feel peace and tranquility here.

ln addition to this, I consider that this sports and leisure centre is quite important for the general public because in this all the sports are available and there is also a peaceful environment in which very individual can feel some relaxation of hustle bustle from their daily life.

Additionally, if for centre get closes in future then our community people come into depression and do not feel good and I think there life became unusual and they do not feel relaxation afterwards.

Looking forward to your prompt response!

Yours faithfully,

Michael James.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt. You mentioned how you use the centre, explained its importance, and described the consequences of its closure. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation of the effects of closure is quite brief and relies on general statements like 'come into depression' rather than specific, well-developed arguments. To reach a higher band, try to expand on your points with more descriptive detail or specific examples of activities or community benefits. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though the opening is slightly informal.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The letter is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'In addition to this', and 'Additionally'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there are issues with referencing, such as 'in this all the sports are available', where the reference to the centre is unclear. The logical progression is present, but the connections between ideas could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents would strengthen this area.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message, including words like 'tranquility', 'beneficial', and 'hustle bustle'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For instance, 'our vision is totally transparent' does not fit the context, and 'feel some relaxation of hustle bustle' is non-standard phrasing. You rely on some repetitive structures and basic vocabulary. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and idiomatic expressions that are natural in a formal letter context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'me my family and my friends use this premises' (missing punctuation and subject-verb agreement issues), 'if for centre get closes' (incorrect preposition and verb form), and 'there life became unusual' (incorrect pronoun usage). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic sentence construction prevents a higher score.
