Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam ,
I am writing this letter to tell you how crucial this recreational centre is for everyone, and this should not be closed.
If i talk about me and my family, we go to centre 3 times a week beacuse we think that its very important to do recreational activities. What we love about it is swimming pool, library, football ground. What attracted us more towards it is baseball ground as we love to play baseball together.
Sports and leisure centre is crucial part of individuals life because they could spend their time doing something which is important for them. For instance, library from where people could get as much knowledge as they want. Not only that, games make our mind fresh for all day and make people confident too.
There are so many demerits of closing this centre. First of all, For young people, it is best place to gain some skills. If it would shut down it would deeply effect youngsters. Not only that, some individuals love to interact with people so they come here if its would close this would impact them badly.
I am looking forward to hearing from you.
Your faithfully,
Gurleen Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: describing your usage of the centre, explaining its importance, and outlining the consequences of its closure. Your position is clear from the beginning. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, when discussing the importance of the centre, you mention the library and games, but the explanation remains quite general. To reach a higher band, try to provide more specific examples or elaborate on how these facilities directly benefit the community. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a council, and the purpose is clear throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical progression, with each paragraph focusing on one of the required points. You use some basic cohesive devices such as 'For instance', 'Not only that', and 'First of all'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical, and the transition between ideas could be smoother. Paragraphing is present, but the structure within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect your arguments more fluidly. Referencing is generally clear, though some sentences feel slightly disjointed.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'crucial', 'recreational', and 'interact'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'demerits of closing' (a more natural choice would be 'negative consequences') and 'make our mind fresh' (better as 'refresh our minds'). There are also minor errors in word form, such as 'effect' instead of 'affect'. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and using more precise vocabulary to express your ideas.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Common issues include missing articles ('go to centre', 'swimming pool'), subject-verb agreement ('its would close'), and punctuation errors. While these errors do not prevent the message from being understood, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency. To improve, pay closer attention to basic grammar rules, particularly the use of articles and conditional sentence structures (e.g., 'If it were to shut down, it would...').
