Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter to request you about not to close Recreational complex centre in our city. It is very useful for local people in their daily routine.

After the school me and my friends use to go in centre to play table tennis, and i noticed in that time that many people are coming for diffrent activities i.e playing indoor games and for swimming etc. This is the only place in our town that help person to meet diffrent communities.

If this place will be close than people will be upset who use to come everyday here for activities. Maybe it will going to efffect on small childrens that they will miss outdoor games. It is a only place where you will find every age group people doing their time pass.

Hope so you will find this letter and go through on it.

Yours Sincearly,

Dhruv

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task. You explained how you use the centre, why it is important for the community, and the potential negative effects of its closure. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation of why the centre is important is quite brief and could be expanded with more specific details about the health or social benefits. To improve, try to provide more depth to your arguments to ensure the reader fully understands the impact of the council's decision.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'After the school' and 'If this place will be close'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical, and the use of linking words is limited. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of transition signals (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in addition') to connect your ideas more fluidly and improve the overall logical progression of your letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant terms such as 'recreational complex', 'activities', and 'communities'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and phrasing, such as 'request you about not to close' and 'doing their time pass'. These errors do not prevent understanding, but they do limit the precision of your writing. Expanding your vocabulary to include more natural collocations and formal expressions would significantly improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the letter. Examples include 'me and my friends use to go', 'if this place will be close', and 'it is a only place'. These errors, particularly with verb tenses and articles, are noticeable. While they do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to affect the overall accuracy. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of conditional sentences will help you achieve a higher band score.
