Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear sir,

I hope this email finds you well. I and our people of the region are very thankful for your recent development plans for the new roads and shopping centre.

Be half of my local area's people concern I am writing this mail where you decide to demolish of the wellness centre for office building. As per my personal experience, this centre is highly important for the me, my family and other people too. This is the only place near to our homes for physical and mental activities.

Moreover, every weekends there is tournaments of volleyball, football and arts. These kind of activities are very important for the people and children to escape from daily life and school for learning new skills, interest and knowing their neighbours.

There are few disadvantages if the place closedown. Like, you will lose the trust of the local community, there will be no place for fun activities for them and also people have to go outside of the city.

I hope you will take this as in priority discussion and we believe that your decision will make me and my local community happy.

Thank you.

Warms regards,

Aryan Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt. You mentioned how you use the centre, explained its importance to the community, and described the negative effects of its closure. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation of why the centre is important is quite brief, and the description of the effects of closure could be more detailed to fully explore the impact on the community. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though there are some lapses in register, such as 'I and our people'. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are expanded with more specific supporting details.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Moreover' and 'In addition' (though 'Moreover' was used correctly, the transition between ideas could be smoother). There is some awkwardness in the flow, particularly with referencing, such as 'Be half of my local area's people concern', which makes the opening difficult to follow. Paragraphing is used, but the internal structure of the sentences sometimes lacks cohesion due to grammatical errors. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message, but there are several instances of incorrect word choice and collocation. For example, 'Be half of' is a misuse of 'On behalf of', and 'demolish of' is grammatically incorrect. You also use 'as in priority discussion', which is not a standard collocation. While your meaning is generally clear, the lack of precision and the presence of these errors limit your score. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and formal phrases suitable for business or official correspondence, and pay closer attention to word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('there is tournaments'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward phrasing ('I and our people'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence structure is often repetitive or grammatically flawed, which occasionally hinders the reader's understanding. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures and subject-verb agreement before attempting more complex constructions. Proofreading for common errors like article usage and pluralization would also be very beneficial.
