Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this to show my concern about the upcoming closing of sports and leisure centre in our town.
I am not able to absorb this news because me and my friend spend most of our leisure time during weekends to do several activities in this club such as playing cricket, walking, and making new friends. Moreover, my family members are also deeply connected with this place, they usually go there to relax and do conversation with neighbours.
This centre is connected with individuals of every age group in our town, teenagers likes to play several sports games in this centre and adults use this area for some physical activities like walking or share day to day life things with other as a social activity.
The closer of this place not only effect the physical health of the citizens, in other words, children can not able to play games and adults also have no chance to do some workouts after this proposal but also it will effect the social life of people.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your prompt reply.
Your faithfully,
Simranjeet Singh.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: describing how you use the centre, explaining its importance to the community, and detailing the effects of its closure. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a council. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For example, when discussing the effects of closure, you mention physical health and social life, but these points could be expanded with more specific examples or a more formal tone to fully meet the requirements of a higher band. The position is clear throughout, and the purpose of the letter is well-defined.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'In other words' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'The closer of this place', which makes the transition between sentences feel slightly mechanical. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the overall progression of ideas could be smoother with a more varied range of linking words and better control over sentence structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You use an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message, such as 'leisure time', 'deeply connected', and 'social activity'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'the upcoming closing' (should be 'closure'), 'do conversation' (should be 'have conversations'), and 'share day to day life things' (which is informal and vague). To reach a higher band, you should aim for more precise collocations and a more formal register, avoiding repetitive or overly simplistic phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include 'me and my friend' (should be 'my friend and I'), 'teenagers likes' (subject-verb agreement error), 'children can not able to' (incorrect modal construction), and 'Your faithfully' (should be 'Yours faithfully'). While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and punctuation prevent the writing from reaching a higher band. You should focus on subject-verb agreement and correct modal verb usage.
