Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to express my suggestion to address the current announcement by the Gore Meadows Community Centre.
The Community Centre is not just a place for my family and our community, although it is a crucial part of our daily lifestyle. We all take advantage of the Community Centre in several ways. like our family plays badminton every other evening after work.
The leisure Centre is not only beneficial to young community but the aged group is also having a delighted evenings by planning cards and board games at the Centre. The playing ground brings a lot of mental and physical strength in school aged children. The cons of the this community living is not written on this piece of paper.
The community who is living close to the Centre may have to go far away for the the physical activity or playing the games. Some Older adults just walk to the Centre may difficult in commuting to long distance.
I am hoping to get the positive response to this letter and you understand the feelings which haven been attached with the local Centre .
Yours Faithfully

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: usage, importance, and the effects of closure. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation of why the centre is important is brief, and the description of the effects of closure is slightly vague, particularly the sentence 'The cons of the this community living is not written on this piece of paper,' which is unclear. While the purpose of the letter is clear, the ideas could be expanded with more specific details to fully meet the requirements of a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate. For instance, the transition 'like our family plays' is informal and grammatically awkward. Some sentences feel disjointed, such as the transition between the benefits for the aged and the benefits for children. Improved use of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in addition') would help create a smoother flow between ideas and improve the overall coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are some instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'having a delighted evenings' and 'feelings which haven been attached with the local Centre.' The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on basic descriptors. To improve, you should aim to use more precise collocations and a wider range of topic-specific vocabulary related to community services and social impact, while ensuring that word forms are used correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'The community who is living close to the Centre may have to go far away for the the physical activity' (repetition and article usage) and 'Some Older adults just walk to the Centre may difficult in commuting' (missing verb/structure). Punctuation is also inconsistent. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band score.
