Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I hope this letter finds you well. Today, I am writing this letter regarding the importance of city recreational centre among the society and by chance if its close number of effects will face by society members.

Commencing with the significance of centre, as all of my friends and family members usually go sports centre on a daily basis, we use this centre in order to stay fit and fine and engage in outdoor activities.

Moving further, it is much important for everyone to visit sports and leisure centre that helps to reduce the anxiety level and it also helps to divert the human mind towards the sports activities than in illegal activities. Due to these, expertise find that the sport centres are much important.

In case of closeness, it would be difficult for not only for teenagers and other stages people to do outdoor games and engage in playful activities. Also, if these centre will close it may put atrocious impact on economy as well as public health.

Thank you for your time.

Regards

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt. You mentioned how you and your family use the centre, explained its importance for the community, and described the potential negative effects of its closure. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of why the centre is important is a bit repetitive, and the description of the effects of closure could be more specific regarding the local community. To reach a higher band, try to provide more concrete examples or elaborate further on the consequences of the closure to demonstrate a deeper engagement with the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, each focusing on a specific part of the task. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Commencing with', 'Moving further', and 'In case of'. However, some of these transitions feel a bit mechanical or slightly unnatural in a formal letter context. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'Due to these', which does not clearly point back to the preceding ideas. Improving the variety and natural flow of your linking words would help to achieve a higher score in this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your main points clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'recreational centre', 'anxiety level', and 'outdoor activities'. However, there are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'fit and fine', 'other stages people', and 'atrocious impact'. These errors occasionally make the writing sound less natural. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and using more precise vocabulary to express your ideas, rather than relying on phrases that may not be standard in formal English.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the letter. Examples include missing articles ('use sports centre'), subject-verb agreement issues ('if its close', 'expertise find'), and awkward phrasing ('if these centre will close'). These errors are noticeable and sometimes distract the reader, although they do not completely impede communication. To improve, pay closer attention to basic grammar rules such as article usage, pluralization, and verb tense consistency in conditional sentences.
