Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir/Madam

I hope to find you well. I am writing this letter with regard to tell you about the utmost importance of this local community sports and leisure

centre has in my and my friends life.

Primarily, I want to be thankful to you regarding this centre we have in our area.As me and my friends love play different sports and love doing leisure activities for fun. We usually there for evening time to practice tennis as it has really big tennis court and also it is free to Uist I accessible to all the public leaving near that society .

Secondly ,we don't need to pay lots of money to play in the other tennis courts. So it is quiet good for people with low income groups who don't have too much money too spend to grow with their passion.

However I heard that this centre going to close soon as the residents of that area are complaining about the loud noises , hooting sounds and other noises the player make there , its quite disturbing for them to do work from home in that kind of surrounding . I really understand that it quiet frustrating for them . I would like to recommend something so that it helps both the parties and there will be no further inconvenice to any of the individual there should be limited hours for the centre to use spirally during week days .

Thank you

yours faithfully

Simone

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: describing how you use the centre, explaining its importance, and discussing the effects of its closure. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention that you use the centre for tennis, the explanation of why it is important to the community could be more detailed beyond just the cost factor. Additionally, the suggestion to limit hours is a good attempt to solve the problem, but the letter would benefit from a more formal tone and a clearer structure to fully meet the requirements of a formal letter to a council.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'Primarily', 'Secondly', and 'However' to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes interrupted by grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'I am writing this letter with regard to tell you'. The use of referencing is occasionally unclear, and some transitions feel mechanical. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that connects logically to the next.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your main points effectively. You use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'leisure activities', 'low income groups', and 'inconvenience'. However, there are several instances of word choice errors or awkward collocations, such as 'leaving near that society' (likely meaning 'living near that area') and 'spirally' (likely meaning 'especially'). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, and you rely on simple descriptors. Expanding your range to include more precise adjectives and formal expressions would help elevate your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an ability to construct complex sentences, but these are frequently marred by grammatical errors. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'this local community... centre has'), missing articles, and incorrect preposition usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas and periods. While your meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors means that the majority of your sentences are not error-free. To reach a higher band, focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your sentence structures are grammatically sound.
